2. Regional Camp Format

There has been much discussion over the past year about the future and format of the Regional Camp.  Last year’s regional camp was cancelled due to lack of participation.  There is a consciences that the goal of the Regional Camp should be two pronged, focusing on athlete development and coaches education.  It has also been suggested that the camp be smaller in terms of numbers and that the coaches attend with their athletes.  There is also a desire to bring in a clinician to work with the coaches and the athletes.  David Klein will be putting a draft proposal together with recommendations for the Regional Camp.  This draft will serve as a starting point for discussion of format and selection.  The Regional Board has set a deadline of December 31st for coming up with a final draft for distribution for the Regional Camp.

3. Regional Voting Criteria

This year was the first year that the Men’s Program has participated in regional voting for the following awards:

Coach of the Year

Judge of the Year

Contributor of the Year

There were no criteria set for this first year, but the Board will be working on a list of criteria for each of the above awards and this will be implemented for next year’s voting.

4. Regional Qualifying Scores for 2006

The board has decided to wait until we see what the Age Group Competition Committee (AGCC) will be doing in regards to implementation of the new code.  This decision will have a big impact on the qualifying scores to next year’s Regionals which will be held at the U of W on April 1 – 3.  The Board would like to have set qualifying score by the middle of February.

5. Regional Championships Update

Date will be the first weekend in April.  This is only 2 weeks after most of the state meets.  State Chairmen will be required to fax or e-mail meet results to Mark Russo (regional meet host) on the Sunday following their state meet.  This ensures that Mark will have more time to prepare for the event.

There will be a college competition on Saturday night between U of W and ASU.

6. Multiple Event Qualifiers

Motion David Klein – To adopt the Multiple Event Qualifiers proposal for qualification into Regionals.

2nd – Greg Schamens

Passed

7. New FIG Code

As of this meeting there has been no official statement from USA Gymnastics as to whether or not the new code would be implemented in part or in whole.  There is a deadline of November 1st in which the AGCC will decide how the new code will impact the JO Program.  It is strongly recommended that all coaches attend the Judges Courses that will be held in the next couple of months.

8. Regional Budget

The balance in the regional account is at $4,953.74 as of October 13th.  This does not include any Regional Congress or Future Stars revenue/expenses.

9. New Items

Team Competition at Regionals

The concept of having team competition at Regionals was brought up and discussed.  No motion was made so the topic was tabled.

POP Awards at Competitions

The judging associations may look into providing awards for Pursuit of Perfection at competitions.  This would be designed to recognize those athletes that are exemplary in their execution.  The Board thought that it was a good idea and would leave that up to the judging associations to decide on this.  The meet hosts would have to be contacted prior to the event so they can plan accordingly.

Motion to adjourn – Paul Gebauer
2nd – Greg Schamens
Respectfully submitted by – David Klein
